Kolkata, Sep 06 (V7N) – Protestors have once again called for the 'Occupy Night' program in Kolkata, demanding justice for the rape and murder of Moumita, a trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. The renewed protest is scheduled for the night of September 8, following a similar movement last month.

The movement, spearheaded by political activist Rimzhim Singh, first gained momentum on the night of August 14 when both men and women took to the streets. In a press conference on Friday, Rimzhim and other political workers from Kolkata announced their latest initiative, titled 'New Song Dawn to Wake Up the Ruler'.

Drawing a symbolic reference to Satyajit Ray's iconic film Gupi Gayain Bagha Bain, Rimzhim said the protesters aim to "wake up the rulers" in the same way Gupi Gayain's music woke up the king in the movie. They hope to reignite the ongoing movement for justice and accountability.

The protest has also extended invitations to various singing and dance groups from Kolkata's cultural community to join the cause, further intensifying the call for justice.

Moumita’s tragic death, which occurred last month, has sparked widespread outrage across West Bengal. Preliminary investigations revealed that she had been raped and murdered, leading to days of protests by students and citizens. The movement has since evolved into a larger demand for West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's resignation, with slogans like 'Dafa One Demand One, Mamata’s Resignation' seen on placards at protests.

The upcoming 'Occupy Night' program is expected to draw significant participation, as people demand swift justice for Moumita and a government response to the mounting outrage.
