Sept 24, V7N- Greece's foreign minister, George Gerapetritis, expressed concerns on Monday that Israel is not facing sufficient international pressure to end its military actions in Gaza, and warned that the escalating conflict at the Israel-Lebanon border presents a "minefield" the international community may struggle to manage. Speaking on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly, Gerapetritis emphasized that while Greece maintains strong ties with Israel, it also advocates for a halt to the ongoing assault on Gaza.
Greece has condemned the Hamas attacks on Israel but is now calling for joint Arab-European initiatives to address the situation, stressing the need for collective international efforts to prevent further escalation. Gerapetritis highlighted that Lebanon could become a highly volatile zone of conflict if the situation worsens, which would make diplomatic resolution even more difficult.
He also mentioned Greece's ongoing efforts to bring wounded and traumatized children from Gaza to the European Union, a project he hopes will soon come to fruition, with Greece prepared to accommodate around 500 children.
