Munshiganj, Jan 11, (V7N) - In a tragic incident on the Meghna River, two people were killed and one severely injured in a collision between a speedboat and a stationary barge in Gajaria, Munshiganj. The accident took place around 9:30 PM on Friday, January 10, in the Guagachia Union area of Gajaria.

The victims were identified as Naeem Hossain (30) and Adud Bepari (35), both residents of Guagachia village in Gajaria. According to Gajaria River Police’s Assistant Sub-Inspector, Mohammad Alamin, the collision occurred when a high-speed speedboat, carrying 10-12 passengers, crashed into a barge that was anchored in the river.

Witnesses reported that the incident occurred in the dark, with the speedboat not being visible in time to avoid the barge. Both Naeem Hossain and Adud Bepari lost their lives instantly in the collision. During the impact, several other individuals who were aboard the speedboat fell into the river and were reported missing.

Rescue operations were launched immediately, but by 1:00 AM, no trace of the missing passengers had been found. Local authorities and search teams were working throughout the night to locate them.

At the Gajaria Health Complex, three of the injured were rushed for medical attention. Dr. Sayma Akter, who attended to the victims, confirmed that two individuals were brought to the hospital dead, while the third was in critical condition. The survivor is currently undergoing treatment.

This tragic accident has shocked the local community, and authorities are continuing their investigation into the incident. The police are also looking into whether the speedboat was operating recklessly or if other contributing factors led to the crash.

Local residents have expressed concerns about the safety of water transport in the area and have called for increased vigilance and safety measures to prevent further accidents.
