Khagrachhari, June 24 (V7N) — A Dhaka-bound passenger bus operated by Shanti Paribahan veered off the road and plunged into a deep ravine in the early hours of Tuesday morning in the Mahbubnagar area of Ramgarh-Jaliapara Road, injuring at least nine people, two of them critically.
The accident occurred around 5:30 AM as the bus was en route to Khagrachhari from the capital. Witnesses and injured passengers reported that the driver had been recklessly operating the vehicle since it departed from Dhaka at midnight.
One of the injured passengers, Md. Ibrahim, said, “The driver was speeding from the very beginning. The bus narrowly avoided a major accident in Munshiganj after colliding with a truck. Despite repeated warnings from passengers, the driver ignored all concerns.”
According to on-site accounts, the driver appeared to be drowsy and lost control of the vehicle just before the bus careened into a ravine.

Two of the critically injured victims were transferred to Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH) for urgent treatment.
Ramgarh Police Station Officer-in-Charge, Mohammad Moin Uddin, said, “Upon receiving the alert, we rushed to the scene with sufficient manpower. All injured were rescued and sent to nearby hospitals. The bus driver is currently on the run, and legal proceedings are underway.”
Authorities have confirmed that the wrecked bus will be recovered and brought under police custody as part of the ongoing investigation.
