The fire at Salam Jute Mill in Rupsa, Khulna has come under partial control.  After more than 6 hours of efforts, 16 units comprising of fire service and navy fire unit brought the fire under partial control around 12 pm.
 
Assistant Director of Fire Service Khulna.  Farooq Hossain Sikder confirmed the matter.  However, he said that it will take more time to bring the fire under complete control. The cause of the fire and no casualties have been reported yet.
 
Manager of Salam Jute Mill Bashir Ahmed said that the fire is believed to have started due to a short circuit due to a mechanical fault in a machine located in warehouse number three.
 
MMA Salam, the owner of the company, said that there were 750 tons of products in three warehouses.  The estimated value of which is 1 crore 50 lakh taka.  Raw jute was one thousand 300 tons;  The estimated value of which is about 20 crore rupees.  In all, there has been a loss of around 100 crore rupees.
 
The jute mill workers said that the jute mill suddenly caught fire in the afternoon.  On receiving the information, the members of the fire service started working to control the fire.  They were joined by members of the Navy.  It is initially believed that the fire may have started from an electrical short circuit.
 
Being in charge of control room of Khulna Fire Service.  Abdul Qadir said, 11 units of the fire service went to the spot after receiving the news of the fire at 5:38 p.m.
 
It is known that about 400 workers are working in the mill.
 
16 units of Fire Service from Khulna's Boyra, Rupsa and Bagerhat's Fakirhat started working to control the fire.  The fire is still burning, the fire is not under control.  A lot of jute was burnt in the fire.  However, it is not yet known how the fire started.  The fire was brought under control around 11 pm.  Later the dumping work started.
