In the Kamrangichar area of the capital, three adolescents suffered burn injuries while releasing lanterns from the roof of a nearby home to celebrate New Year on Sunday.

Md. Siam,14, son of Swapan Bepari, and his twin brothers, Md. Rakib Hossain,17, and Md. Raihan,17, both sons of Danesh Bepari, were identified as the burn victims. In their relationship, they are uncle and nephew. They are all native to the Shariatpur district's Jajira Upazila. They currently reside in Kamrangichar's Mojibar Ghat area in the city.

Three persons were brought in with burns on Sunday night, according to Md. Tariqul Islam, a resident physician at the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.

Siam suffered 88 percent of his body's burn damage, followed by Rakib with 6 percent and Raihan with 2 percent.
Siam's condition is considered critical, and he is receiving treatment in a hospital; the other two people were released from the hospital after receiving first assistance.

The event happened on the roof of Sohel Saheb's home at Kamrangirchar Mujibar Ghat's fifth level.

Sajib, Siam's cousin's brother, claimed that Siyam was using paraffin in his mouth to light fires. Kerosene unintentionally spilled upon his body and ignited. The paternal uncles Rakib and Rayhan who were present also got slightly burned while attempting to put out the fire. They were saved right away and taken to the Burn Institute.

According to Siam's father Swapan Bepari, his son Siam and his twin uncles went to a neighbor's roof to celebrate the 31st night, where they were caught up in a fatal accident.
