In a bid to bolster Sri Lankan onion cultivation, the Ministry of Agriculture has earmarked Tk 14 crore as an incentive.

The initiative, outlined in a press release by the ministry, aims to support 36,000 small and marginal farmers across 24 districts nationwide. These farmers will receive seeds and fertilizers free of charge to facilitate onion cultivation.

Each farmer will be provided with 1 kilogram of seeds, along with 20 kilograms each of Diammonium Phosphate (DAP) and Muriate of Potash (MOP) fertilizers, sufficient for cultivating one bigha of land.

Funded through the Ministry of Agriculture's regular budget for agricultural rehabilitation assistance and the seed and seedling sector, the incentive underscores the government's commitment to promoting agricultural development.

The Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC) will oversee the distribution of seeds and fertilizers, with plans to commence distribution at the grassroots level soon.
