In a shocking incident, miscreants have destroyed crops worth an estimated Tk 15 lakh in Mahuzanpur village of Mujibnagar Upazila, Meherpur. The incident took place on Saturday night when the miscreants cut down papaya, banana, and kopi plants from the land of Golam Mostafa, a resident of Mahuzanpur village.
According to locals, Golam Mostafa, son of Shahidullah of Mahuzanpur village, had cultivated 800 shatak of papaya trees on 2 bighas of land, 1600 shatak of banana trees on 4 bighas of land, and kopi during the summer season on 2 bighas of land. The banana trees were already bearing fruit, and the papaya trees were just starting to bear fruit when the miscreants destroyed most of the crops under the cover of darkness.
Upon discovering the destruction in the morning, Golam Mostafa broke down in tears. He estimated the total loss at Tk 15 lakh. He expressed hope for justice and said that he would file a case with the police.
Meanwhile, a team from Mujibnagar Police Station has visited the scene of the incident.
