Rajshahi, Sep 01 (V7N) - The 15-day Rajshahi Divisional Tree Fair 2024 was officially inaugurated with the theme, “Adorn the Country with Trees, Enrich Bangladesh.” The event was launched on Sunday at the Green Plaza of the City Hall by Dr. Dewan Muhammad Humayun Kabir, the Administrator of Rajshahi City Corporation and the Divisional Commissioner of Rajshahi. He performed the opening ceremony by cutting the ribbon, releasing balloons and doves, and subsequently toured the various stalls at the fair.
 
The inauguration ceremony was led by Rajshahi District Commissioner Md. Shamim Ahmed. Special addresses were given by Mohammad Aminul Islam, Forest Conservator of Bogura Social Forest Division; DC Mir Shafin Mahmood of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police; Assistant Director Fahaduzzaman Akand of RAB-5; and Rasik Secretary Md. Mobarak Hossain. Rajshahi Divisional Forest Officer Md. Rafiquzzaman Shah offered the welcome remarks, and Saheduzzaman Saju, President of the Rajshahi Nursery Owners Association, also spoke.
 
In his speech, the Divisional Commissioner highlighted the importance of trees for environmental protection and life preservation, noting their benefits as mentioned across different religions. He urged people to avoid unnecessary tree cutting and to increase tree planting efforts. He also announced plans to establish a dedicated market for expanding the nursery industry in the city.
 
Earlier in the day, a vibrant rally began at Bindur Mor, proceeded through various streets, and concluded at the City Hall. The fair, supported by the Rajshahi District Administration, features 66 stalls from various organizations. The event included the distribution of checks to individuals involved in tree-planting activities.
 
To promote tree planting, the Chief Guest handed out saplings to students from Shahid Najmul Haque Girls' School, Agrani School and College, Nawadapara Girls' High School, Rajshahi Urban Satellite Town High School, Nawadapara Pilot High School, and Lakshmipur Girls' High School.
 
The event was attended by representatives from government and non-government organizations, as well as students from various educational institutions.
