Dhaka, Sep 26 (V7N)-  The government of Bangladesh is committed to simplifying business operations and removing unnecessary trade barriers, according to Trade Advisor Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed. He expressed these views during a meeting with the American Chamber of Commerce in Bangladesh (AmCham) at the Ministry of Finance on Wednesday afternoon.

The meeting focused on several issues, including easing business procedures, reducing tariffs, addressing port complexities, tackling traffic congestion, and promoting cashless transactions. The discussions were described as productive, with both sides sharing insights on improving the business environment.

Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed emphasised the government's aim to facilitate business and restore order in various sectors, noting that no structured rules had been followed in the past 16 years. He assured that the government is working on resolving the Tk 18,000 crore bank deficit, which has not occurred yet.

Addressing the issue of traffic congestion, especially in Dhaka's Gulshan-Banani area, he remarked, "We cannot appoint one crore traffic police for a population of 18 crore. Civic sense needs to be ingrained to mitigate traffic issues."

AmCham representatives, including President Syed Ershad Ahmed, also highlighted the need for deferred payment options in international trade and cash incentives for digital payments, which they believe would accelerate the transition towards a cashless society.

Commerce Ministry Secretary Mohang Salim Uddin, AmCham Executive Member Moinul Haque, and Rubaba Daula were also present at the meeting.
