Dhaka, July 18, (V7N) – The United Nations Human Rights Office (OHCHR) has officially launched its mission in Dhaka following the signing of a three-year memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Bangladesh and the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights.

The MoU was signed by UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Falkirk Turk and Bangladesh’s Foreign Secretary Asad Alam Siam. The newly established mission aims to provide training and technical assistance across multiple sectors to strengthen human rights protections.

Falkirk Turk stated that the mission will work extensively to implement recommendations from the UN fact-finding report. It will foster direct cooperation with the government, civil society, and other stakeholders, facilitating progress on fundamental reforms.

He further emphasized that the mission will focus on capacity building for government institutions and civil society workers, supporting efforts to meet human rights commitments through training and technical support.

The involvement of the UN Human Rights Office in Bangladesh has increased significantly since August last year, with the organization collaborating with various partners on fact-finding, advancing reforms, and addressing mass protests.
