New York, Sep 25 (V7N) Chief Adviser of Bangladesh’s interim government, Dr. Muhammad Yunus, has stated that former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, currently residing in India, should be brought back and face trial if she is found to have committed any crimes.

Speaking at an event in New York on Wednesday during the United Nations General Assembly, Yunus addressed questions about Sheikh Hasina's potential repatriation, remarking, "Why not?" He added that if there is evidence of wrongdoing, she should face justice.

Yunus also clarified that there is no fixed timeframe for the upcoming elections in Bangladesh. Commissions established for various reforms are expected to make recommendations in the coming months, after which an election date will be set.

When asked about his own political ambitions, Yunus firmly stated that he had no intention of contesting in future elections.

Sheikh Hasina resigned from her post as Prime Minister on August 5 amid a wave of student-led protests and public dissent, subsequently fleeing to India. On August 8, the interim government, led by Nobel laureate Dr. Muhammad Yunus, took charge.
