Dhaka, Sep 27 (V7N): A recent survey by the Bangladesh Institute of Development Studies (BIDS) shows that only 29.39% of users are fully satisfied with the quality of data provided by the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS). The survey, titled the 'User Satisfaction Survey (USS 2024)', collected feedback from 1,333 users and was released on Thursday, September 26.

According to the findings, 55.59% of users are "somewhat satisfied" with the BBS statistics, while 11.64% are "somewhat unsatisfied" and 3.39% are "totally unsatisfied."

Regarding the accuracy of official BBS data, 64.34% of users expressed satisfaction, whereas 25.58% were dissatisfied. In terms of timeliness, 54.36% of users were satisfied, and 38.56% were dissatisfied. Relevance garnered positive feedback from 77.06% of respondents, though 16.81% expressed dissatisfaction.

The frequency of data updates saw mixed reactions, with 47.88% of users satisfied and 42.88% unsatisfied. Overall, compared to the USS 2022, USS 2024 shows improved satisfaction levels in accuracy, timeliness, and relevance of data, despite some exceptions.

The survey revealed that population, demographic, and vital statistics are the most frequently used by 68.57% of respondents, followed by income and poverty statistics (60.77%), and national accounts statistics (54.91%) published by the BBS. On the other hand, information and communication technology (17.18%) and crime and judicial statistics (7.88%) were among the least used.

Interestingly, usage patterns remain similar for users with a PhD or from academic backgrounds. While the overall percentage of users has increased since the USS 2022, the use of population, demographic, and vital statistics has declined slightly. Notably, about 40.98% of respondents use BBS data with no specific periodicity, down from 46.57% in 2022.
