Teknaf, Aug 24 (V7N) – Twelve fishermen from Shahporir Dwip in Teknaf were abducts by the Arakan Army near the Naf River border with Myanmar while returning home after a fishing trip. The group was abducts on Saturday afternoon near the mouth of the Naf River, at the Nykshyngdia section of the border areas.
 
The abducts include the following individuals:
 
Md. Ali Ahmad (39), Mohammad Amin (34), Fazl Karim (52), Kifayet Ullah (40), Saiful Islam (23), Saddam Hossain (40), Md. Russel (23), Md. Sowayb (22), Arif Ullah (35), Mohammad Mostak (35), and Nurul Amin (45), One more individual whose name is not yet confirmed.
 
According to local fisherman Rehmat Ullah, the group had just returned from sea fishing when they were intercepted by the Arakan Army in speedboats and detained. The area is known to be under the Arakan Army’s presence on the Myanmar side near Nykshyngdia.
 
Sheikh Ehsan Uddin, the Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Teknaf, confirmed the incident. He said, “I have heard that 12 fishermen from Shahporir Dwip were detained by the Arakan Army near the mouth of the Naf River in Nykshyngdia, which lies across the Myanmar border. It appears they were taken because they crossed into Myanmar’s territory. The incident has been reported to the Deputy Commissioner and relevant authorities.”
