Dhaka, Sep 28 (V7N): Dr. Iftekharuzzaman, Executive Director of Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB), has emphasized the immediate need for reforms to the Information Commission and amendments to the Right to Information Act. His call for change was made during a discussion marking International Right to Information Day on Saturday.

The event, themed "Integrating the Right to Information into the Core of the State and Ensuring Participation in the Public Sector," took place at the auditorium of the Information Commission.

SM Kamrul Islam, Director of the Information Commission, chaired the session, where he underscored the importance of enhancing the commission’s capacity by expanding its workforce.

Dr. Iftekharuzzaman highlighted that restructuring the Information Commission and revising the Right to Information Act are critical steps towards improving transparency and accountability in governance.

Additional Secretary Nazrul Islam from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting described the Right to Information Act as a key instrument for facilitating transparency, accountability, the rule of law, and public participation. He added that these elements are essential for creating a just and prosperous state.

Nazrul Islam also stressed the importance of raising public awareness about the Right to Information Act and called for reforms to ensure it better serves the community.

The event featured a keynote presentation by Dr. Mohammad Abdul Hakim, Director General of the Directorate of Primary Education, and was attended by government officials, heads of various organizations, journalists, and other invited guests.
