Dhaka, Sep 30 (V7N): A clash between ready-made garment (RMG) workers and law enforcement personnel in Ashulia today left one worker dead and six others hospitalized, with several suffering gunshot wounds.

Yusuf Ali, duty manager at Enam Medical College Hospital in Savar, reported, "Three individuals with gunshot wounds were admitted around 1pm, one of whom was already deceased." The deceased has been identified as 27-year-old Kawsar Hossain Khan, who worked at Mango Tex in Ashulia. Kawsar was shot in the stomach, while two others, Noyon and Russel, both around 26 years old, were shot in the chest and are in critical condition.

Two additional workers were later admitted, both employees of Natural Indigo Factory. Separately, PMK Hospital in Ashulia received two more workers, Habib from Natural Denims and Nazmul Hasan from Natural Indigo Factory, both with bullet wounds to the leg.

The violence erupted when garment workers, who have been protesting for weeks to demand higher wages, blocked a road in the Jirabo area. Law enforcement officers attempted to disperse the protestors, leading to a clash. Tear gas was used to control the situation, but eyewitnesses claim that several workers were shot during the confrontation, with around 30 injured in total.

Due to ongoing unrest, several factories in the Ashulia industrial area have faced daily closures.
