Dhaka, Sep 30 (V7N): Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) has voiced serious concern, stating that the government's decision to dissolve the textbook review committee in response to radical pressures is a dangerous and troubling compromise.

TIB remarked that the cancellation of the committee, responsible for revising textbooks under the National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB), undermines the vision of a non-discriminatory, pluralistic "New Bangladesh" and threatens the nation's commitment to secular values.

In a press statement, TIB’s Executive Director, Dr. Iftekharuzzaman, highlighted that the interim government’s compromise with radical factions goes against the principles of peaceful coexistence and equal rights for all, regardless of religious, social, or cultural backgrounds. He stressed that the "New Bangladesh" envisioned by the people and the martyrs is one that is transparent, accountable, and non-sectarian, where no single ideology or religious doctrine should dominate.

Dr. Iftekharuzzaman further condemned the rise of malice and hostility aimed at eroding the non-communal spirit of the country, which he claims are gaining traction due to the government's concessions to fundamentalist groups. He emphasized that by dissolving the textbook review committee, the government has shown a worrisome inclination towards appeasing communal forces, which undermines the very aspirations of a democratic and inclusive Bangladesh.

He also reaffirmed that despite the pressure from radical and communal elements, the anti-discrimination movement—built on the values of pluralism, inclusiveness, and equality—will continue to resist such forces. TIB urged the government to remain steadfast in its commitment to reform and to resist any further compromises with extremist groups.
