DHAKA, August 5 (V7N) - A Biman Bangladesh Airlines Boeing 787 Dreamliner on Monday made history by becoming the first aircraft to utilize the new Passenger Boarding Bridge and Visual Docking Guidance System (VDGS) at the new Terminal 3 of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA). This event marks a significant operational milestone for the new terminal.
The aircraft, operating as Flight BG-356 from Leonardo da Vinci-Fiumicino Airport (FCO) in Rome, was piloted by Captain Ishtiaque Hossain, with First Officer Tahsin serving as co-pilot, according to a message from Biman.
The trial operation, conducted between 10:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. after the passengers had disembarked, involved a thorough testing of several systems at Terminal 3. This included the VDGS, the boarding bridge-mounted external power and air-conditioning systems, and the water supply connectivity to the aircraft.
Air Commodore Abu Sayeed Mehboob, Member (Operations & Planning) of the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB), was present to witness the event. CAAB officials stated that this trial represents a "critical step forward in enhancing the operational readiness and service capabilities of Terminal 3."
The Visual Docking Guidance System (VDGS) is a modern technology designed to help pilots precisely park aircraft at their designated gates. It provides real-time visual cues, thereby reducing the reliance on ground staff and minimizing the risk of misalignment or accidental collisions with ground equipment.
