Dhaka, Aug 04 (V7N) – Home Affairs Advisor retired Lieutenant General Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has assured the public that there is no reason to panic ahead of August 5, the anniversary of the July Uprising. He emphasized that the government is maintaining heightened vigilance across the country.
Speaking after a high-level discussion with law enforcement agencies at the Home Ministry on Monday morning, the advisor acknowledged that while the law and order situation has not yet reached the ideal state, notable progress has been made since the previous government’s exit on August 5 last year.
“The mob has reduced compared to before. Law and order has definitely improved in the past year, though we haven’t yet reached the level we aspire to,” he said.
General Jahangir noted that since independence, law and order has been a persistent challenge in Bangladesh. However, he stressed that the interim government is working sincerely to improve the situation and expects further progress from the next administration.
The advisor also confirmed that law enforcement will remain on special alert until the elections, citing the need for ongoing vigilance. He admitted that not all weapons looted from the police during last year’s unrest have been recovered, but security forces are actively pursuing the matter.
In response to concerns about political tensions, the advisor added:
“The party in a weaker position is being provided with more security. We are maintaining balance and fairness.”
With growing political attention on the anniversary of the uprising, the government appears focused on maintaining order and ensuring a peaceful environment in the run-up to elections.
