Dhaka, Mar 16 (V7N) — Angry rickshaw and auto-rickshaw drivers surrounded a commercial building in Uttara late Sunday night after a rickshaw puller was allegedly beaten to death following an altercation with a security guard.

According to local sources and police officials, the incident occurred around 12:30 am on Sunday in front of a commercial building belonging to Square Group in the Uttara area of the capital. Witnesses said the confrontation began when a verbal dispute between a rickshaw puller and a building security guard escalated into a physical altercation.

As news of the incident quickly spread among other rickshaw drivers in the area, a large number of them gathered at the scene. The agitated drivers blocked the road in front of the building and created a commotion, demanding justice for the victim. Some protesters also attempted to vandalize parts of the building during the unrest.

Local residents claimed that rumors circulated among the crowd that the body of the deceased rickshaw puller had been hidden inside the building, which further intensified the anger of the protesters. The situation quickly grew tense as more people joined the demonstration.

Police were deployed at the scene to bring the situation under control and prevent damage to the building as well as disruption to nearby businesses. Law enforcement officials said security measures had been strengthened in the area to prevent further escalation.

Police authorities stated that an investigation is currently underway to verify the details of the incident and identify those involved. They added that security personnel will remain on alert in the area until the situation fully returns to normal.
