Dhaka, Oct 8 (V7N): The United States has expressed its desire to see those responsible for recent human rights violations in Bangladesh held accountable, according to US Department of State spokesperson Mathew Miller. He made the remarks during a regular press briefing yesterday, addressing concerns about the situation in Bangladesh.

Miller was asked about the US’s communication with Bangladeshi authorities, particularly in relation to protecting minority rights, especially with the Durga Puja festival set to begin tomorrow. In response, he affirmed that the US expects the rights of minorities to be safeguarded in Bangladesh.

When questioned about the US's response to concerns raised by French-based human rights group JMBF over rising mob violence and legal cases filed against innocent individuals in Bangladesh, Miller referred to recent discussions between US Secretary of State and Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus at the UN General Assembly in New York. During that meeting, the US Secretary reiterated the importance of protecting human rights and ensuring accountability for recent violations.
