Dhaka, Oct 15 (V7N): Excelerate Energy, a US-based company specializing in energy infrastructure and reliable energy solutions, intends to enhance its investments in Bangladesh's energy sector. This was communicated by Chief Executive Officer Steven Kobos during a meeting with Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus at the State Guest House Jamuna in Dhaka.

In a press statement released today, Kobos mentioned that the company also plans to invest in decarbonization projects within the country. He emphasized Excelerate's commitment to scaling up and ensuring a consistent supply of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) to Bangladesh.

Currently, Excelerate Energy operates two offshore Floating Storage and Regasification Units in Bangladesh, contributing 1.1 billion cubic feet of gas, which represents about 34% of the nation's daily gas supply.

Kobos highlighted a growing interest in Bangladesh from American businesses since the current government took office, noting that several prominent US companies, including members of the US-Bangladesh Business Council, are enthusiastic about investment opportunities in the region.

As the chairman of the US-Bangladesh Business Council, Kobos praised the Chief Adviser for his leadership, stating that it would bolster business confidence in Bangladesh.

Professor Yunus welcomed the prospect of increased US investment in Bangladesh, highlighting the government's efforts to attract foreign direct investment and enhance the business environment.

"You have come at the right time here," Professor Yunus remarked to Kobos and his business delegation.

During his recent trip to the US, the Chief Adviser spoke at a US-Bangladesh Business Council event, extending an invitation to all 50 members, including leading American multinational corporations, to invest in Bangladesh.

Kobos was joined in the meeting by high-ranking officials from Excelerate Energy, including Peter Haas, the former US ambassador to Bangladesh, who has recently taken on the role of Strategic Advisor at the company, along with Derek Wong and Ramon Wangdi, vice presidents, and Habib Bhuiyan, the country manager.

Others present included Lamiya Morshed, senior secretary and head of SDG Affairs, Ashik Chowdhury, chairman of the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA), and Saiful Islam, energy secretary.
