Rajshahi, Oct 20 (V7N) – Home Adviser Lt Gen (Retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury urged traders to remain vigilant against syndicates and extortion to help control the rising prices of essential goods. He emphasized the need to immediately inform law enforcement agencies if any attempts of extortion are noticed in the markets.

The adviser made these remarks after visiting Nawhata and Khargori markets in Rajshahi Metropolitan on Sunday. During the visit, he inquired about commodity prices and urged local traders to ensure that no syndicates or extortion activities take place. A press release from the Home Ministry highlighted these concerns.

Regarding the recent price hikes, Jahangir, also the Agriculture Adviser, attributed the increase to recent floods in southeastern districts like Cumilla, Feni, and Noakhali, as well as the ongoing floods in Mymensingh and Sherpur. "Cumilla is a major vegetable-producing district, and its production has been affected by the flooding, contributing to the rise in vegetable prices," he explained.

Later, speaking at the Darbar of the 19 Ansar Battalion in Nawhata, Paba Upazila, the adviser praised Ansar members for their role in safeguarding diplomatic zones, airports, and financial institutions. He commended their efforts during the anti-discrimination student movement on August 5, when Ansar members stepped up in a challenging situation for law enforcement agencies. "For this, they deserve our appreciation and good wishes," he remarked.

The adviser further noted that various issues concerning Ansar members had been resolved, and they were carrying out their duties effectively. He expressed optimism about the ongoing improvements in the law and order situation, emphasizing the significant role Ansar Bahini could play in this progress.

Jahangir Alam also visited the regional fertilizer warehouse of the Bangladesh Agriculture Development Corporation (BADC) in Amchattar, Rajshahi.
