Dhaka, Oct 23 (V7N) – The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) reported that 25 police officers sustained injuries during a protest in front of Bangabhaban on Tuesday, where demonstrators were demanding the resignation of President Mohammed Shahabuddin. This information was shared on Wednesday by DMP Deputy Commissioner (Media) Muhammad Talebur Rahman.

Of the injured officers, nine have been admitted to Rajarbagh Central Police Hospital, while the remaining 16 received primary treatment and were sent home. DMP sources indicated that the officers on duty faced physical assaults and were pelted with brick chips by the protesters.

The protest began Tuesday afternoon, with various groups rallying in front of Bangabhaban and issuing a 24-hour ultimatum for the president to resign. Tensions escalated in the evening, culminating around 8:30 PM when protesters attempted to breach police barricades to enter the premises. In response, law enforcement used batons and sound grenades to disperse the crowd, resulting in injuries to three individuals, including students.

Following the confrontation, protesters retaliated by throwing stones at the police and attacking officers who had climbed onto police vehicles. By Wednesday morning, the area surrounding Bangabhaban remained tense, prompting the deployment of various law enforcement units to maintain order and prevent further unrest.
