Dhaka, Oct 24 (V7N) – Erik Kurzweil, Director for the Indo-Pacific, South Asia, and Afghanistan at the German Federal Foreign Office, has reaffirmed Germany's commitment to standing by Bangladesh and exploring opportunities for enhanced cooperation, particularly in the area of sustainable transition.

Kurzweil visited Bangladesh from Wednesday to Thursday to assess prospects for deepening bilateral exchanges. During a meeting with Additional Foreign Secretary Ambassador Nazrul Islam, both sides discussed the current situation in Bangladesh and the state of their bilateral relations.

Kurzweil expressed satisfaction over the mutual interest in signing a Climate and Development Partnership by the end of the year. He also emphasized the importance of Bangladesh preparing for its upcoming graduation to benefit from the EU’s GSP+ scheme.

In his meetings with politicians, students, and civil society representatives, Kurzweil received detailed insights into the challenges faced by the current government and the aspirations for a new future for Bangladesh.

Germany, which is Bangladesh's second-largest export market with a strong focus on the RMG sector, continues to support reforms that reassure international business partners. This was highlighted during a roundtable discussion hosted by the German Embassy, where representatives of German companies in Bangladesh reiterated the importance of these reforms.
