Ethiopian Airlines, Africa's largest airline and a Star Alliance member, is launching direct flights between Addis Ababa and Dhaka, with the inaugural flight set to arrive at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) in Dhaka at 8:30 am on November 3. This new route will operate five times weekly, providing travelers in Bangladesh with enhanced access to over 155 destinations worldwide, including major cities in Africa, Europe, and North America.
The inaugural flight, ET 678, will be serviced by a Boeing Dreamliner 787-9, departing Dhaka at 9:40 am for the return journey. Weekly departures from Dhaka are scheduled for mornings on Sundays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays, and in the evenings on Mondays and Fridays.
The launch aligns with Ethiopian Airlines' mission to "Connect Continents, Cultures, and Communities." The opening ceremony will be attended by Air Vice Marshal Md Monjur Kabir Bhuiyan, Chairman of the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB), and Lemma Yadecha, Group Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) of Ethiopian Airlines.
Group CEO Mesfin Tasew expressed optimism about the new service, emphasizing the potential for strengthening socio-economic ties between Bangladesh and Ethiopia, as well as providing significant benefits to the broader region. Shohag Hossain, Managing Director of Rhythm Group, Ethiopian Airlines' General Sales Agent in Bangladesh, noted that the route is more than just a new flight—it’s a way to bring Bangladesh closer to the world.
