Dhaka, Nov 08 (V7N)- Bangladesh Army Chief General Waqar-uz-Zaman emphasized the importance of interfaith harmony and unity in building a peaceful nation. Speaking at the Kati Chibar Dan and Buddhist Mahasammelan held at the International Buddhist Vihara in Merul Badda, Dhaka, on Friday afternoon, the Army Chief called for cooperation across all religious communities to create a "beautiful country."
"We want to build a country of harmony," said General Waqar-uz-Zaman, highlighting this as a core tenet of Buddhism. "This is the main mantra of Buddhism. We want to build a beautiful country together with people of all religions," he added, underscoring his commitment to fostering unity and inclusivity.
The annual event attracted many participants from the hilly regions, an area rich in Bangladesh's natural and cultural resources. "The hilly regions are a huge asset to our country. I am committed to doing whatever is needed for the peace and prosperity of these areas," he noted. The Army Chief also pledged ongoing support to ensure the continued celebration of the Kati Chibar Dan festival, a tradition deeply rooted in Buddhist heritage.
The Kati Chibar Dan, a sacred Buddhist ritual, dates back approximately two and a half thousand years to the time of Lord Gautama Buddha. Known as the "donation of the hard robe," it involves completing the complex tasks of spinning yarn, weaving, sewing, and dyeing within 24 hours, with the finished robe then offered to Buddhist monks. The event underscores the dedication and devotion central to Buddhist practices, symbolizing unity and sacrifice.
General Waqar-uz-Zaman's remarks come as part of a broader effort to strengthen bonds between religious communities in Bangladesh, reaffirming the role of the military in supporting peace and social cohesion across the nation.
