Dhaka, Nov 10 (V7N)- Various political organizations, including the National Democratic Front of Bangladesh, Bangladesh Workers Federation, Left Democratic Alliance, and Socialist Students' Front, gathered to honor the memory of martyr Noor Hossain on Saturday evening.

Leaders and activists assembled at Noor Hossain Square in Gulistan, placing wreaths in tribute. Dipak Sen, an activist present, voiced disappointment with the state of democracy, stating, "We had hoped the new government would prioritize democracy, but this remains unfulfilled."

Mahin Shahriar, another attendee, reaffirmed their commitment to observing this day annually. Regarding the past government's role, Shahriar said, "Those responsible for bloodshed in the fight for freedom are still accountable. The Awami League government no longer has a place in our politics. Should they attempt a comeback, people will stand against them. We, too, will organize to resist any return of authoritarianism."

The Anti-Discrimination Student Movement has announced a public rally at the same location at 12 p.m. Sunday. Tensions escalated after the Awami League called on its members via Facebook to gather at Zero Point on Sunday at 3 p.m. to commemorate Noor Hossain, leading to enhanced security around the area.

Noor Hossain, a political activist, lost his life on November 10, 1987, when police opened fire on pro-democracy demonstrators during a protest against then-ruler HM Ershad.
