Dhaka, Nov 15 (V7N)- Law Adviser Dr. Asif Nazrul has stated that prosecuting those responsible for enforced disappearances and abductions remains a significant challenge.

Speaking at an event organized by the Asian Federation Against Involuntary Disappearances in a hotel in Gulshan, Dhaka, on Friday, Dr. Nazrul acknowledged the difficulty of addressing the impact of 15 years of governance in a short period.

He explained, “Although we may lack certain capabilities, we do not lack sincerity. The government is focused on rehabilitating and compensating the families of the disappeared, and we are committed to supporting them.”

Responding to a question from a victim’s family member, Dr. Nazrul stated, “This government is different from previous ones. We are not political figures, and each of us is established in our respective professions. Therefore, there is no question of repeating the mistakes of past governments.”

He emphasized that no previous government has ever formed a commission to investigate enforced disappearances or extrajudicial killings. He further added, “If there have been any mistakes in our governance, you are free to criticize us.”

A family member of a victim, visibly emotional, pleaded for assistance, saying, “We request this government to at least provide us with some information. Please help us.”

At the same event, Industries Adviser Adilur Rahman Khan reinforced the importance of justice, stating that it is not just a priority for the families of the victims but for everyone who has suffered under the repression of the Awami League over the past 15 years.
