Dhaka, Nov 16 (V7N)- Industries Adviser Adilur Rahman Khan announced on Saturday that measures are being implemented to reopen the country’s shuttered sugar mills in a phased manner. A dedicated task force has been formed to oversee this initiative.

During his visit to the Setabganj Sugar Mill in Dinajpur, the adviser shared, “A task force committee is actively working on reopening the closed mills, involving beekeepers and other stakeholders. An initial Tk120 crore was allocated to support farmers, and an additional Tk100 crore will now be provided to further assist the process.”

Revitalizing Setabganj Sugar Mill
Adilur highlighted ongoing efforts to restart operations at Setabganj Sugar Mill, located in Bochaganj upazila of Dinajpur district. Closed since 2020, the mill remains one of the largest in the country. “Once reopened, the mill will operate at full capacity with modernized equipment. Additionally, all encroached land will be reclaimed,” he stated.

The adviser reaffirmed the government’s dedication to revitalizing the sugar industry and improving the livelihoods of farmers. He emphasized that reopening these mills will significantly contribute to economic growth, create substantial employment opportunities, and enhance the welfare of local communities.

The government views the restoration of these mills as a crucial step toward strengthening rural economies and fostering sustainable industrial development.
