The commission includes prominent individuals such as Professor Dr. Gitiara Nasreen from Dhaka University's Department of Mass Communication and Journalism, Shamsul Huq Zahid, Editor of The Financial Express, and Akhter Hossain Khan, Secretary of the Newspaper Owners' Association of Bangladesh (NOAB).
Other members are a representative from the Association of Television Owners, former Jatiya Press Club Secretary Syed Abdal Ahmed, Jamuna Television CEO Fahim Ahmed, journalist and Media Support Network Convener Jimi Amir, Daily Star correspondent Mustafa Sabuj from Bogura, The Business Standard Deputy Editor Titu Dutta Gupta, and Abdullah Al Mamun, a student.
The commission will gather input from relevant stakeholders and submit its recommendations to Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus within 90 days.
The chief and members of the commission will receive government-determined status, salaries, and benefits. However, individuals opting to serve voluntarily without benefits must obtain prior approval from the chief adviser.
This commission is part of broader reform efforts, following the government’s October 17 announcement of new commissions focusing on health, media, workers' rights, and women's affairs.
