DHAKA, Dec 02, (V7N) - Dhaka University (DU) Vice-Chancellor (VC) Professor Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan emphasized the dual urgency of state reform and providing support to the families of martyrs and those injured during the July-August mass uprising. Speaking as the chief guest at a memorial discussion at Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR), Dr. Khan highlighted the transformative impact of the July Revolution, crediting its success to the trust and participation of ordinary people, led by students.

The event, held at BRUR's Independence Memorial Square, was presided over by BRUR Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md Showkat Ali and included speeches, cultural performances, and a commitment to strengthen ties between DU and BRUR through academic collaboration. Dr. Khan expressed hope for future partnerships in research and education between the two institutions.

Dr. Abdullah-al-Mamun, a DU faculty member and political analyst, spoke as the main discussant, drawing attention to societal inequalities, particularly in the Rangpur division, which he described as a victim of systemic neglect. He urged the interim government to prioritize support for the families affected by the uprising before implementing broader reforms.

In his remarks, BRUR Vice-Chancellor Dr. Showkat Ali announced plans to establish a Martyrs' Memorial Corner on the BRUR campus to honor the sacrifices made during the July-August movement. He stressed the urgent need to rehabilitate the families of the martyrs and injured.

The program also featured speeches from family members of martyrs, including relatives of Shaheed Abu Sayeed, a BRUR student who lost his life in the anti-discrimination movement. The DU VC visited Sayeed's grave earlier in the day in Babanpur village, Pirganj upazila.

The event concluded with a cultural program and a tree-planting ceremony led by Dr. Khan to commemorate the day and its significance.
