Narayanganj, Dec 05 (V7N) Retired Lieutenant General Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, Home Affairs Advisor, has suggested that UN peacekeeping forces should be deployed in India, not Bangladesh. He made the statement during an event organized by Fire Service and Civil Defense in Rupganj, Narayanganj, on the occasion of International Volunteer Day on Thursday morning.

Highlighting concerns about internal strife in India, Lt. Gen. Chowdhury said:

“There are riots, unrest, and persecution of minorities in India. Therefore, it is urgent to deploy peacekeeping forces in their country.”

He emphasized that Bangladesh is capable of safeguarding its own sovereignty and warned against any external aggression, stating:

“If there is any attack on the sovereignty of Bangladesh, everyone in the country will unite and resist it.”

The advisor also criticized the role of Indian media, alleging that it is propagating misinformation to destabilize Bangladesh.

“The country's media is continuing propaganda to create instability in Bangladesh,” he added.

The comments come at a time of heightened regional tensions and political uncertainties. Reports of minority persecution and communal violence in India have drawn international scrutiny, while Bangladesh remains vigilant amid domestic and geopolitical challenges.

Lt. Gen. Chowdhury’s remarks may stir diplomatic sensitivities between Bangladesh and India. While his call for UN intervention reflects a strong stance on regional stability, it underscores Bangladesh’s concerns about cross-border dynamics and external narratives influencing its internal affairs.

Further responses from both domestic and international stakeholders are awaited.
