On February 21, 1952, the young people stepped on the road in front of Dhaka Medical College. They demanded to recognize Bengali as the state language. The police fired to suppress their just demand. The fresh life of Salam, Rafiq, Barkat, Jabbar, Shafiur was pouring out. On that day, a memorial tower was built there for the martyrs. It was also destroyed by the Pakistani invaders in the night. Later it was rebuilt. Every year common people pay respect to the martyrs there.

Alpana has been painted on the road of the central Shaheed Minar square of Dhaka University. The events of February 21, 1952 are depicted in the mural. The day has become a day to protect the mother tongue of all speaking people of the world. May the practice of mother tongue survive from generation to generation.

Let the new generation know the sacrifice of the martyrs to protect the mother tongue. So the children also came holding the hands of their parents. People of different classes and professions have come.
