Dhaka, July 28 (V7N) — Sahil Farabi Ayan, a 14-year-old student of Milestone School and College, has died from burn injuries sustained in the recent plane crash in Dhaka’s Uttara area. He passed away while undergoing treatment at the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery early Monday morning.
Dr. Shawon Bin Rahman, Resident Surgeon at the Burn Institute, confirmed the death and said Sahil was on life support when he died at approximately 1:45 AM. “He had burns covering 40 percent of his body,” the doctor stated.
Sahil was among several victims injured after a small aircraft crashed and caught fire in a densely populated area of Uttara earlier this week. The crash led to multiple injuries and fatalities, with the wounded being admitted to different hospitals based on the severity of their condition.
The latest casualty brings the total number of deaths at the National Burn Institute to 18. An additional fatality linked to the crash was previously recorded at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital's burn unit, raising the overall death toll to 19.
The tragic death of a young student has intensified calls for stronger regulation and safety oversight in aviation training operations, especially in urban areas where flight paths are dangerously close to residential neighborhoods and schools.
Authorities are still investigating the cause of the crash. Preliminary findings suggest the aircraft may have encountered technical failure mid-flight, though a conclusive report is still pending from the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh.
Sahil’s school, Milestone School and College, expressed deep sorrow at the news and described him as a promising, well-loved student. His passing has left the school community and the wider public in mourning, as the nation reflects on the safety implications of flight operations near populated areas.
