Dhaka, July 31 (V7N) – Shafiqul Alam, the Press Secretary to the Chief Advisor, has said that the next five to six days will be critical in determining the direction of Bangladesh’s new political settlement. He made the remarks while speaking to reporters on Thursday.
“In the coming days, we will better understand where the country is headed politically,” Shafiqul Alam stated. “But one thing is certain — the election will not be delayed. The Chief Advisor remains firm on this matter.”
He added that if public participation remains strong, there will be no barriers to holding a free and fair election. “We are optimistic that the elections will take place peacefully during this time.”
Commenting on the interim government's role, he noted, “This administration took over when the country was in a fragile state. Considering that, the interim government has done a commendable job in stabilizing the situation.”
On the issue of corruption, the Press Secretary reiterated the government's zero-tolerance stance. “If there is evidence of extortion or misconduct, action will be taken against anyone involved, regardless of their position,” he warned.
Shafiqul Alam also expressed disappointment over the lack of financial transparency among political parties. “Even after 54 years of independence, political parties still lack proper transparency in their fundraising practices. This is unfortunate.”
