Dhaka, Mar 17 (V7N) — The government has decided to appoint 330 police officers who were selected in 2006 but were later denied joining due to political considerations, bringing an end to a 19-year-long wait.
The decision was announced in an order issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs (Police Branch-2) on Monday, signed by Deputy Secretary Farida Khanam.
According to the notification, the selected candidates will be appointed under certain conditions. Their seniority—excluding financial benefits—will be determined based on the date they would have joined had the recruitment process not been canceled. The total training period will be considered two years, including six months as an apprenticeship.
The ministry stated that the final gradation list will be prepared later, following written and oral examinations and in accordance with the rules of the Ministry of Public Administration.
It was also noted that if other candidates from the same 2006 batch apply in the future, they may be considered for appointment through the same process, subject to verification and police clearance.
These recruits were originally selected during the tenure of the BNP-Jamaat alliance government in 2006. However, the recruitment process was canceled in 2007 by the caretaker government on allegations of politically motivated appointments.
Following years of legal and administrative efforts, the current government has reinstated their appointments. The Home Ministry has instructed the relevant authorities to take necessary steps promptly in line with existing laws and regulations.
