New York, Mar 17 (V7N) – Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman met with UNCTAD Secretary-General Rebecca Greenspan at the Permanent Mission of Bangladesh to the United Nations to discuss the impact of the ongoing Middle East conflict on the global economy.
During the meeting, the two leaders noted that the conflict poses significant risks to international trade and energy markets, disproportionately affecting developing countries. They expressed concern that the poorest nations may fall behind in development progress achieved in recent years and called on all parties to pursue diplomatic solutions to reduce tensions.
Dr. Khalilur Rahman and Rebecca Greenspan also discussed their respective candidacies: Greenspan, former Vice President of Costa Rica, is a candidate for the post of the next UN Secretary-General, while Dr. Rahman is vying to become President of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.
Ambassador Salahuddin Noman Chowdhury, Permanent Representative of Bangladesh to the UN, was present at the meeting.
