Dhaka, Dec 16 (V7N) –Hasnat Abdullah, one of the key coordinators of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, has strongly criticized a post by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
In a post shared on his verified Facebook account on Monday, Hasnat Abdullah included a screenshot of Modi’s Facebook post.
In the post, Modi wrote: “Today, on Vijay Diwas, we honour the courage and sacrifices of the brave soldiers who contributed to India’s historic victory in 1971. Their selfless dedication and unwavering resolve safeguarded our nation and brought glory to us. This day is a tribute to their extraordinary valour and their unshakable spirit. Their sacrifices will forever inspire generations and remain deeply embedded in our nation’s history.”
Hasnat Abdullah, attaching the screenshot of Modi's post, responded: “This is Bangladesh’s Liberation War. The war was fought for Bangladesh's independence from Pakistan. But Modi has claimed that it was solely India’s war and achievement. In doing so, they’ve completely ignored the existence of Bangladesh.”
He went on to write: "When India claims this independence as their own victory, I see it as a direct threat to the independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Bangladesh."
He concluded: “It is inevitable that we must continue our struggle against this threat from India. Our fight must go on.”
Bangladesh is celebrating its 54th Victory Day on Monday, marking the historic day in 1971 when the country was liberated from Pakistani occupation after a nine-month-long Liberation War.
On December 16, 1971, Bangladesh emerged as an independent nation, paying a heavy price with the supreme sacrifice of 3 million lives and the honour of nearly half a million women.
President Mohammed Shahabuddin and Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus paid glowing tributes to the martyrs of the Liberation War at the National Martyrs' Memorial in Savar, located on the outskirts of the capital, with the rise of the sun.
