Dhaka, Dec 17 (V7N) — Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin has assured that the Election Commission will take all necessary steps to ensure fair, free, and impartial national elections. He clarified that the commission is currently focusing solely on national elections, with no preparations underway for local elections.

The CEC made these remarks during a press briefing at the Election Commission Building in Agargaon, Dhaka, on Tuesday afternoon.

Addressing concerns about political participation, Nasir Uddin said, “Various discussions are ongoing regarding the participation of the Awami League in the elections. However, this is a political matter, and the commission will not comment on it.”

Highlighting the importance of upholding the public's trust, he added, “The blood of students and the public cannot be betrayed. Everyone has been agitating for fair elections and a country free from discrimination. The Election Commission is committed to achieving this goal.”

In a significant announcement, the CEC confirmed that the commission has decided to abandon the electronic voting machine (EVM) system in the upcoming parliamentary elections. “The next parliamentary elections will be conducted through traditional ballots,” he said.

The decision reflects the commission’s efforts to address public concerns and ensure a transparent electoral process.
