Dhaka, Dec 18, (V7N) - The Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin has stated that the Election Commission is ready to hold elections at any time if the government desires. He made these comments following remarks by Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus about the elections. The CEC assured that preparations for the national election have been underway since the beginning, and discussions with political parties are ongoing.

Regarding the political parties, he emphasized that the main stakeholders in the election are the political parties, and continuous dialogue with them is essential. However, he declined to comment on the controversy surrounding the Awami League at this time.

While speaking with the media on Tuesday at the Election Commission office in Agargaon, the CEC highlighted that the necessary preparations for the election are in place. He confirmed that the Election Commission is fully prepared to conduct the elections in line with the timeline suggested by the Chief Advisor.

In response to a question about local government elections, he clarified that the Election Commission is currently focused on parliamentary elections, as political parties are also discussing the national elections. Local government elections are not currently under consideration, but the Commission will make recommendations regarding them.

The CEC also addressed the issue of redrawing parliamentary constituency boundaries. He assured that any redrawing would be done fairly, and if past boundary delineations were made to manipulate elections or benefit specific candidates, such irregularities would be reviewed.

Regarding the voter list, he confirmed that the Commission would receive a final list of voters and would conduct a house-to-house survey to update it. There have been reports of deceased voters, new voters missing from the list, and the presence of foreign or duplicate voters. These discrepancies will be checked and corrected, and the election will proceed with the updated list. If needed, legal amendments will be made to ensure a fair and smooth election process.
