Dhaka, Dec 27 (V7N) — Brigadier General Muhammad Zahed Kamal, Director General of the Fire Service and Civil Defense Department, stated that it is too early to determine whether the fire at the Secretariat was caused by sabotage or an accident. The situation is currently under close observation.

Speaking to reporters after attending a meeting of the newly formed investigation committee on Friday morning, he confirmed that an official investigation into the fire incident has been launched.

Earlier in the day, members of the newly constituted eight-member investigation committee arrived at the Secretariat and held a meeting to discuss the matter. This new committee was formed on Thursday night, replacing the previously nullified seven-member committee.

The senior secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs has been appointed as the convener of the new committee. The committee has been tasked with investigating the source and cause of the fire, identifying any personal or professional negligence, and providing recommendations to prevent such incidents and improve the overall security of the Secretariat.

According to the official order, the committee is required to submit a preliminary report by December 30, with a full report to follow within 10 working days.

The fire, which broke out in Building 7 of the Secretariat, has raised concerns about safety and security at one of the country's most important administrative complexes. Authorities are committed to determining the cause and taking necessary measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
