Dhaka, Dec 27 (V7N) — Attorney General Advocate Md. Asaduzzaman announced that former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia is legally eligible to participate in the next national elections, as all false and conspiracy cases against her have been resolved. He made these remarks at a shadow parliament event organized by Debate for Democracy at the FDC in Dhaka on Friday.

Asaduzzaman asserted that the participation of the Awami League is not crucial for ensuring inclusive elections. He added that if Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is convicted in cases related to the "July murders," she and several Awami League leaders could face disqualification. He further claimed that after Sheikh Hasina’s potential downfall, no one in the party would have the courage to stand by her.

The Attorney General accused the Awami League of undermining democratic practices, referencing past incidents such as alleged ballot box hijackings in 1973 and recent elections. He called for justice and exemplary punishment for those responsible for electoral misconduct.

“Those who destroyed the electoral system, tore up the constitution, and violated people’s rights have been identified as villains of history,” he said, emphasizing that they would face legal accountability and be consigned to the "dustbin of history."

Highlighting the legacy of the July Revolution, Asaduzzaman said it was rooted in the spirit of the Liberation War and aimed at building a discrimination-free Bangladesh. He vowed to protect its achievements against any conspiratorial threats, stating, “No conspirator will be able to destroy this achievement. The martyrs of the July Revolution will remain the great heroes of history.”

The event was chaired by Hasan Ahmed Chowdhury Kiron, Chairman of Debate for Democracy, and attended by legal experts, students, and political analysts.
