Dhaka, Dec 30 (V7N)— The investigation report into the fire at the Secretariat, originally scheduled to be submitted today, will now be submitted tomorrow, Tuesday (December 31), confirmed Senior Secretary Nasimul Gani on Monday.
Speaking to reporters, he explained that additional time was required to coordinate the information collected by multiple agencies involved in the investigation. The Cabinet Division has approved the extension. Gani also noted that samples collected from the fire site are being sent abroad for further analysis.
“The preliminary investigation report will be submitted tomorrow before the 5 pm deadline,” Gani stated, without disclosing any details about the report's findings.
Meanwhile, after a four-day ban, journalists were allowed entry into the Secretariat today at around 2 pm, based on a pre-approved list. Temporary cards or listed access will be required for journalists to enter on working days moving forward. A limited number of vehicles were also allowed into the premises. Although officials have resumed entry, the Secretariat is yet to return to full operational capacity.
The fire broke out in the Secretariat early on Wednesday (December 26) at 1:52 am. The Fire Service responded promptly, with 19 units working tirelessly for over five hours to bring the fire under control by Thursday morning. Full extinguishment required an additional five hours of effort.
Authorities are expected to provide insights into the cause and impact of the fire once the investigation report is submitted.
