Dhaka, Jan 01 (V7N) — The government has retired three additional inspector generals (AIGPs) of Bangladesh Police in the public interest, according to three separate notifications issued on Tuesday (December 31) by Nasimul Ghani, Senior Secretary of the Home Ministry.

The retired officials are:

1. Mallick Fakhrul Islam, Rector of Police Staff College.

2. YM Belalur Rahman, Additional IGP of Police Telecom.

3. Selim Md. Jahangir, Additional IGP at Police Headquarters.

The notifications stated that the retirements were made under Section 45 of the Government Services Act, 2018 (Act No. 57 of 2018). The officers will receive retirement benefits as per the applicable rules, and the orders have come into effect immediately.

Previous Retirements in the Police Force

The recent retirements follow a series of similar actions in 2024:

October 8, 2024: Former RAB Director General Barrister Harun Or Rashid, Highway Police Chief Shahabuddin Khan, and Tourist Police official Khandaker Mohid Uddin were given compulsory retirement.

September 22, 2024: Additional IGP Devdas Bhattacharya, DIG AKM Hafiz Akhter, DIG Bashir Ahmed, SP Mizanur Rahman, ASP Rafiqul Islam, and DMP Assistant Police Commissioner Dadan Fakir were also retired.

September 2, 2024: Additional IGPs Khandaker Lutful Kabir and Mir Rezaul Alam, and several other senior officers were retired.

These retirements come amid significant restructuring within the law enforcement agencies since the fall of the Awami League government on August 5, 2024.
