Dhaka, Jan 19 (V7N) — Russian Ambassador to Bangladesh, Alexander G. Khozin, has expressed optimism about resolving the debt repayment complications surrounding the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant. The newly appointed ambassador made these remarks after his first meeting with Bangladesh's Foreign Affairs Advisor on Sunday.
Speaking to reporters, Ambassador Khozin reaffirmed Russia's longstanding support for Bangladesh, stating, "Russia has stood by Bangladesh in the past, and this cooperation will continue in the future." He added that discussions are ongoing with the Ministry of Finance to address the debt repayment issues.
The ambassador expressed confidence that the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant, once fully operational, would significantly enhance Bangladesh's electricity supply system. He also reiterated Russia's commitment to supporting Bangladesh on international matters, including the Rohingya refugee crisis.
The Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant, a flagship project under Bangladesh-Russia cooperation, is expected to play a pivotal role in bolstering the country's energy sector upon completion.
