Dhaka, Jan 26 (V7N) — The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has revealed allegations of corruption and misuse of power against Saima Wazed Putul, claiming her actions have caused financial losses and tarnished the reputation of Bangladesh on the global stage. The ACC made these revelations through a statement released by Deputy Director and Public Relations Officer Md. Akhtarul Islam on Sunday.

Key Allegations:

1. State Visits Without Justification:

The ACC stated that Saima Wazed accompanied various state visits without reasonable grounds, raising concerns about unnecessary expenditure of public funds.

2. Questionable WHO Nomination:

The ACC highlighted inaccuracies in her nomination credentials for a prestigious WHO position, noting that she held Canadian citizenship and a Canadian passport at the time. The statement described this as damaging to Bangladesh's reputation in the international community.

3. Misuse of State Funds:

During the 76th WHO Conference held in Delhi (October 30 - November 2, 2023), it was alleged that more than a hundred officials attended, leading to excessive expenditure. Saima Wazed reportedly leveraged her familial and political connections to facilitate this misuse of state resources.

4. Illegally Acquired Property:

Saima Wazed is accused of illegally acquiring a 10-katha plot in the diplomatic zone of the 'Purbachal New City Residential Project' through corruption and abuse of influence. The ACC has filed a case against her and others regarding this allegation.

5. Foundation Misconduct:

The ACC alleged that Saima Wazed established the Suchana Foundation to collect gifts and funds forcibly from businesses and organizations. Additionally, funds allocated to fake projects under the Autistic Cell of the Ministry of Health were allegedly embezzled.

6. Tax Evasion:

It was further claimed that Saima Wazed influenced the National Board of Revenue (NBR) to secure tax exemptions for funds received by the Suchana Foundation, resulting in significant financial losses for the government.

Ongoing Investigations:

The ACC is conducting investigations based on complaints and preliminary findings, emphasizing the need for accountability. The statement concluded by warning of the reputational risks posed by individuals involved in such alleged misconduct.
