Dhaka, Jan 27 (V7N) — Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Sheikh Md. Sajjat Ali stated that the ongoing clash between Dhaka University students and those of seven affiliated government colleges could have escalated into a bloody confrontation if not for the intervention of the police.

Speaking to reporters after a meeting of the core committee on the country’s law and order at the Secretariat on Monday, the DMP Commissioner highlighted the restraint shown by law enforcement during the incident.

"The police handled the situation with great patience during the clash between students of the seven colleges, including Dhaka College, and Dhaka University on Sunday night. Only sound grenades and tear shells were used as needed to control the situation," he said. "Without this intervention, a bloody clash could have occurred."

Sajjat Ali expressed optimism that the situation would stabilise by Monday and assured that efforts are being made to prevent further escalation.

The clash reportedly began over disputes related to academic issues and has caused significant unrest in the area, drawing the attention of authorities to maintain peace and order.
