Dhaka, Jan 28 (V7N)— Amid a nationwide strike by Bangladesh Railway running staff over unresolved demands, including adjustments to basic salary and retirement allowances, the Ministry of Railways has introduced BRTC bus services on key routes to mitigate passenger inconvenience.

The strike, which began at midnight on Monday, has brought train operations to a halt across the country. Addressing the issue, Muhammad Fauzul Kabir Khan, advisor to the Ministry of Railways, described the strike as regrettable and urged railway staff to end their protest.

Speaking at Kamalapur Railway Station on Tuesday morning, Fauzul Kabir Khan stated, "The Ministry of Railways is in discussions with the Finance Department to address these demands. We hope for a solution soon." He further emphasized that the ministry is working to resolve the issue but called on staff to refrain from holding passengers hostage.

Railway Secretary Md. Fahimul Islam, Dhaka Divisional Manager Mohammad Mohiuddin Arif, and BRTC Chairman Tajul Islam were also present during the advisor's visit to Kamalapur.

To alleviate disruptions, an emergency message from the Railways Ministry announced the deployment of BRTC buses to key destinations, including Chittagong, Rajshahi, Sylhet, Khulna, Comilla, Bogra, and Mymensingh. Passengers with valid rail tickets can travel on these buses from Dhaka Railway Station and Airport Railway Station. The alternative service will remain operational until further notice.

While urging staff to withdraw the strike, Fauzul Kabir Khan warned that other measures might be taken if demands are met through coercion. Meanwhile, passengers continue to face significant challenges as the country grapples with the impact of the strike.

Efforts are ongoing to restore normal rail services as quickly as possible.
