Gazipur, Jan 30 (V7N) – The first phase of the three-day Bishwa Ijtema, one of the largest gatherings of Muslim devotees, is set to begin on Friday (January 31) on the banks of the Turag River in Tongi. A 160-acre field has been prepared for the event, and devotees from across the country have already started arriving in large numbers.
Ijtema Schedule and Arrangements
- The main phase will start with the Ambayan (general sermon) after the Fajr prayers on January 31.
- Preliminary speeches have already begun intermittently for the arriving devotees.
- Devotees from 41 districts will participate in the first phase.
- The field is divided by district-wise designated areas for the devotees to gather.
Massive Influx of Devotees
On Thursday (January 30), large numbers of devotees were seen arriving at the Ijtema ground by buses and trucks, carrying large bags on their shoulders. Heavy congestion was reported at all entry points as devotees made their way to their designated sections.
Many attendees said they arrived early to prepare for the event and immerse themselves in religious learning and spiritual devotion. Despite concerns over toilet facilities and drinking water, devotees expressed confidence and patience, prioritizing their spiritual experience.
Security and Safety Measures
Authorities have significantly increased security at this year's Ijtema:
- CCTV cameras, observation towers, and intelligence surveillance have been set up across the ground.
- Law enforcement officers will be present in both uniformed and plainclothes roles.
- Gazipur Metropolitan Police (GMP) Commissioner Dr. Mohammad Nazmul Karim Khan confirmed that security is tighter than in previous years to ensure a safe and peaceful gathering.
Special Arrangements
- Free medical services are available from various organizations.
- Bangladesh Railway is running 14 special trains to facilitate the movement of devotees during the Ijtema.
As the first phase of Bishwa Ijtema 2025 begins, the number of attendees is expected to rise significantly, filling the entire field in the coming days.
